King Saul pursued David, who was hiding from him in the strongholds of the woods. It was a circular chase, with Saul on one side of the mountain and David on the other. They were going round and round as David made haste to get away from Saul’s men encircling him. Then came a messenger to Saul saying the Philistines had invaded his land, so Saul returned to go against the Philistines, and that place of pursuit became the Rock of Escape for David.
