The Book of Proverbs says that Wisdom is the opposite of foolishness. Apparently, there is such a thing as “good judgment” which is an unpopular idea at the moment. Multitudes are saying, “Don’t judge” without reading to the end of the paragraph. The passage clearly says to remove the plank from one’s own eye before dealing with a speck in the eye of someone else.
To me, it is clear that God wants us to seek (and find and follow!) the best ways to live. It’s as if God is saying, “You were not standing behind the door when the brains were handed out!” The entire Bible urges the pursuit of Wisdom. Of course, judging a person regarding Heaven or Hell is completely up to God and God alone. But right from wrong? Good from evil? The Bible says it is up to each one of us to discover what’s what — or not. Our choice.
My choice is to seek diligently. To listen and learn. To love and let live. I believe “I do me and you do you” and that it’s ultimately between each one of us and God. Mine is to learn to discern. What an adventurous life of awe and exploration!
